  • It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Fri 24 Nov 2023 Mr Hopkinson

Things are definitely starting to feel a bit more 'Christmassy', with the school's Christmas tree getting decorated for the annual Christmas Tree Festival at St. Swithun's Church and the school's outside Christmas tree going up too - what a mission that was!

Nursery, Reception and Year 2 have been in full swing rehearsing their Christmas performances and are very much looking forward to showing them to parents in a couple of weeks' time.

  • Children in Need

Fri 17 Nov 2023 Mr Hopkinson

A massive thank you and well done to everyone that took part in raising money for Children in Need! As a school, we raised a fantastic £315.

  • Fun at Crowden

Fri 17 Nov 2023 Mr Hopkinson

Our year 6 children have had an incredible time on their residential to Crowden this week.

They have been very active, doing plenty of walking, weaselling and canoeing, as well as taking part in lots of different evening activities.

A huge thank you to the staff that have made the trip possible, from organising it to staying over!

You can check out the photos on the Year 6 Twitter feed.

  • A Day of Remembrance

Sun 12 Nov 2023 Mr Hopkinson

Today, on Remembrance Sunday, members of the School Council joined Armed Forces veterans, local councillors and dignitaries, as well as members of the public to pay their respects to the fallen at the Remembrance Service, taking place at Retford Cenotaph this morning. The children were exemplary and represented the school brilliantly.

  • Welcome Back!

Mon 06 Nov 2023 Mr Hopkinson

Welcome back to the new half term! I hope you all managed to spend some quality family time together over the two week half term. I have really enjoyed hearing about some of the Halloween and Bonfire Night activities the children have done.

This half term is a notoriously a busy one, and we have lots of exciting activities prepared for the children, including our Winter Disco and Nativity performances.

  • Supporting World Mental Health Day

Fri 13 Oct 2023 Mr Hopkinson

On Tuesday 10th October 2023 the entire school took part in supporting World Mental Health Day. Children came to school wearing different items of yellow clothing, from socks to jumpers to headbands - the 'sea of yellow' was amazing!

As a school, we managed to raise £288 for Young Minds.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

  • Busy week

Fri 06 Oct 2023 Mr Hopkinson

It has been a busy week at Ordsall with flu vaccinations and individual photographs taking place. On Tuesday, Reverand Alex visited school and shared an assembly with the children about Harvest and the importance of giving thanks. We also welcomed Bassetlaw Museum as they delivered workshops to our year 5 classes all about Anglo Saxons.

The school football team had their second match of the season on Thursday where they played out an entertaining 2-2 draw against Redlands Primary School. That is one win and one draw from the first two fixtures, so a positive start to the season - great work!

  • Residential fun

Fri 29 Sep 2023 Mr Hopkinson

The children in year 5 have had an amazing (and tiring) week! Many of the children spent two nights away from home whilst on residential in Whitby, with half the year group going on Monday and Tuesday and the other half on Thursday and Friday. This was split with the entire year group meeting up in York on Wednesday.

The children had the opportunity to find out about York's Viking history, including a visit to Jorvik Viking Centre and DIG. Whilst there, they took part in different workshops, including digging for artefacts and learning about Viking weaponry.

Everyone had a fantastic time, and I was so proud of the many compliments received by members of the public for the children's brilliant behaviour. Well done everyone!

  • Welcome back!

Wed 06 Sep 2023 Mr Hopkinson

Welcome back! I hope you all have had a wonderful summer and managed to spend some quality time with friends and family.

This year brings some changes, with myself taking over from Mr Chapman as the new headteacher of Ordsall Primary School. I would like to say a big 'thank you' for the very warm welcome I have received from the staff, children, families and the wider school community. I am looking forward to working with you all to build on the great successes of the school.

The children were brilliant on their first day back at school, with lots of smiley faces and excitement to see their new classrooms and teachers.

Here is to a wonderful 2023/24 academic year!
