  • Space Wonderdome visits Ordsall

Fri 02 Feb 2024 Mr Hopkinson

As part of Year 5s learning this half term they have been learning that Earth is known as the ‘goldilocks’ planet due to our surroundings being just right for many life forms to thrive. Throughout this, they have been focusing on things in our solar system and were fortunate enough to spend some time this week looking at this in incredible detail in the Space Wonderdome!

  • Exciting Learning at Ordsall

Fri 26 Jan 2024 Mr Hopkinson

This week has seen lots of exciting learning taking place through the school.

In Reception, the children have been busy making their own lemonade during their Children's Kitchen session with Mrs Hepworth. Each week the children explore different fruit and vegetables, including tasting them to see what they enjoy.

Following their visit from a Roman solider last week, the children in Year 4 have been making their own elaborate mosaics which look amazing!

Also, in Year 2 they have been improvising their own tunes to go along with a song using glockenspiels.

All in all it has been a very busy and exciting week at Ordsall!

  • Survivors Day

Thu 18 Jan 2024 Mr Hopkinson

The children in year 2 had an amazing time this week during their Survivors Day. They learnt lots of new skills, including how to filter water, build shelters, light fires (safely), as well as having a go at making survival brackets using maps in orienteering. The children were amazing, in spite of the very cold weather, and we are very proud of them!

  • Welcome Back

Fri 12 Jan 2024 Mr Hopkinson

Welcome back everyone! I hope you have managed to enjoy some quality family time over the festive break. It has been wonderful seeing the children back in school this week, as happy and eager as ever.

It has been an exciting week because we have taken delivery of our new sports kits. We have enough for each year group for when they represent the school in sporting events, tournaments or matches. I think you will agree that they look fantastic!

  • Merry Christmas

Fri 22 Dec 2023 Mr Hopkinson

I just want to wish you all a merry Christmas and I hope 2024 is a year filled with good health, joy and happiness for you and your families.

I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know you and your children during the autumn term and I really appreciate the warm welcome and kindness you have shown to me. I appreciate there have been some slight changes to certain processes since September, but please know that these, and any future ones, are made with the school’s, children’s and your best interests at heart.

Today is Christmas Jumper Day (number 3!) and the children have enjoyed taking part in lots of Christmas activities and will be tucking into their Christmas dinner too. They have also had a very special visitor to their classes - Santa has been to deliver some books to each class. As you can imagine, we had some very excited children (and staff) - thank you, Santa!

Here’s to a wonderful 2024 for everyone involved with Ordsall Primary School.

  • Christmas time

Fri 15 Dec 2023 Mr Hopkinson

Christmas is nearly here and everyone at Ordsall has fully embraced the festive spirit! So far this month we have had two Christmas jumper days, the school is decorated with tinsel, lights and Christmas trees, and Nativities have been performed for parents. Everyone is very much looking forward to Christmas dinner day next week, Christmas parties, another Christmas Jumper Day and many more festive activities!

This week also saw some of our choir visit Retford Oaks for their Christmas Cabaret. It was such a lovely experience and it was great to see some past pupils of Ordsall performing.

Lastly, I'd like to wish a merry Christmas to all of our wonderful school community. Your ongoing support during the autumn term has been incredible and is greatly appreciated by everyone at school. I hope you all manage to have some special family time together over the festive break.

  • A week of celebrations

Fri 08 Dec 2023 Mr Hopkinson

There has been lots to celebrate this week! Firstly, I am incredibly proud of our year 6 children who worked so hard to complete the Drug, Alcohol and Resilience Training (DAaRT) programme, with one of the children saying, 'We are the future'. Well done children!

Also, this week has seen our year 2 children perform their Nativity, A Twinkly Nativity, to their parents and families. The children were fantastic, with plenty of singing and dancing, and the odd joke thrown in too. Seeing the smiling faces on the audience's faces says it all. Great work everyone!

  • Ordsall community does it again!

Fri 01 Dec 2023 Mr Hopkinson

I feel incredibly proud this week after witnessing the immense kindness and generosity of our wonderful school community.

Working closely with the Nottinghamshire Fire Service, we have been collecting donations of toys and books in support of Women's Aid. When the fire service came to collect the donations, they were astounded by the number of items donated.

On behalf of everyone at Ordsall Primary School and the Nottinghamshire Fire Service, I would like to say a huge 'thank you' to everyone that supported this amazing cause.

  • It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Fri 24 Nov 2023 Mr Hopkinson

Things are definitely starting to feel a bit more 'Christmassy', with the school's Christmas tree getting decorated for the annual Christmas Tree Festival at St. Swithun's Church and the school's outside Christmas tree going up too - what a mission that was!

Nursery, Reception and Year 2 have been in full swing rehearsing their Christmas performances and are very much looking forward to showing them to parents in a couple of weeks' time.

  • Children in Need

Fri 17 Nov 2023 Mr Hopkinson

A massive thank you and well done to everyone that took part in raising money for Children in Need! As a school, we raised a fantastic £315.
