Year 2 - Phase 2

Welcome to the year group page for Hepworth, Matisse and Van Gogh classes!

Our topic for Summer term 2 is...

What is the best ever invention?

As part of our learning, we will be looking at various inventions and inventors over time. We will also be writing biographies of famous inventors as well as advertising inventions. All of our learning will lead us to answer the question - What is the best invention ever? I wonder if we will all have different answers or whether we will decide on one overriding winner!

Welcome to our current topic for Summer term 1, where we are asking

Robin Hood - friend or foe?

As part of our learning, we will be looking in detail at our locality and delving into the life of the legend of Sherwood Forest - Robin Hood. The big question will allow us to become young historians as ask and answer the moral question of whether his actions were right or wrong. We will be reading a range of texts including 'The Night Gardener' and 'The Adventures of Robin Hood.' For this half term, our Science unit will involve exploring plants of the forest and include opportunities for first hand experiences for the children. Below are our WWAL and Homework menu for the half term.

In the second half of the Spring term, we will be finding out...

Who lives in a place like this

We are going to be acting as scientists as we start to look at the different habitats of creatures on Earth. We will also be reading the fantastic Little Evie in the Wild Woods by Jackie Morris which will be our stimulus for writing activities too. If you have any knowledge of creatures or animals then you may want to produce your own homework about these!

Welcome to our topic for Spring 1, where we will be asking:

Are you a survivor?

Who doesn’t exploring new and exciting places? But do you have what it takes to explore far off lands and survive in extreme climates? This term we will track the perilous journeys of explorers from the past and find out about them and their more modern day counterparts. We will learn survival skills of our own including first aid and set ourselves goals just like those who went before us.
