Welcome to our current topic, where we will be travelling back in time nearly 4000 years and across the globe to visit Ancient Greece! Although they lived a long time ago, we'll be finding out how their legacy still impacts us today.

How were lives in Britain and Retford changed by World War 2?
During this half term we will be focusing on the role Britain played in World War 2. We will be looking at famous events such as the Battle of Britain, whilst also looking at the life of evacuees and those involved in the Blitz. We have some fantastic art lessons planned and this will also provide us with a great opportunity for writing. In guided reading, we will also be starting our new class text...
How do living things adapt to survive in their habitat?
In Spring term 2, we will be focusing more on adaptation in the second half of the Spring term as we look in depth at the life of Charles Darwin. We will be exploring his theory and undertaking our own research as to how living things have adapted to survive. Further to this, we will also continue reading 'Holes' by Louis Sachar.
What can survive in the harsh environment of the desert?
For our learning in the first half of the Spring term, we will be focusing on our geographical skills as we look at the different deserts on Earth. As part of our learning, we will look at adaptation in Science and particularly the works of Charles Darwin following his visit to the Galapagos Islands. We will also be starting our new class text which will be 'Holes' by Louis Sachar. Below is the WWAL for the half term and some ideas for homework.
Why should we thank the Ancient Greeks?
As part of our History learning for this half term we will be looking at the Ancient Greeks! In our guided reading we will be reading a range of Greek myths as we start to learn about their culture. Further to this, we will be looking at the Spartan and Athenians in Greek life and the differences they had. Our learning will allow us to also develop our Geography skills as we use map work to locate Greece on a map using six point grid references.
Can we live forever?
As part of our learning for Autumn term 1, we will be looking at the human body and in particular - the circulatory and digestive systems. Our class text will be Malorie Blackman's 'Pig Heart Boy' which we will study during our guided reading sessions. Some of writing will also be focused around 'How to live forever' by Colin Thompson. During our first half term we will also begin our DART sessions and enjoy a fantastic residential trip to Crowden.
