SEND

Our Commitment

At Ordsall Primary School, we are committed to providing an inclusive, nurturing and ambitious environment where every child can achieve their full potential as we play, learn and grow together.

We believe that all children have the right to a rich, exciting and accessible curriculum that prepares them for the next stages of their education and life beyond school. Our approach is child-centred and focused on promoting independence, confidence, self-esteem and resilience.

Supporting children’s mental health and wellbeing is central to everything we do. We help children to understand how they learn through the development of metacognitive skills, empowering them to become independent, reflective learners.

Our Approach to SEND

We follow the statutory guidance set out in the DfE’s SEND Code of Practice (2015) and work in line with Nottinghamshire’s SEND Policy and Local Offer, which details the services and provision available to children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

We are committed to identifying and supporting additional needs as early as possible. These may include:

  • Cognition and Learning needs

  • Communication and Interaction needs

  • Sensory, Physical and/or Medical needs

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs

How We Support Our Pupils

We work in close partnership with parents, carers and a range of external agencies to ensure every child receives the right support within our mainstream setting.

Through a graduated response to need, we use Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and tailored interventions to remove barriers to learning and promote progress. Each plan is reviewed regularly to ensure that provision remains effective, appropriate and responsive to the child’s needs.

Our goal is for every child with SEND to be fully included, supported, and confident as a valued member of our school community.

Working Together

We value the strong relationships we have with families and believe that effective communication between home and school is key to achieving the best outcomes for our children.
