School Structure
School Structure
Ordsall Primary School is organised across three distinct buildings on our site. To support this and to ensure clear leadership, strong relationships and smooth transitions for pupils, the school is structured into three phases.
Our Phases
-
Phase 1 – Early Years
Nursery (part-time and full-time) and Reception -
Phase 2 – Lower School
Years 1, 2 and 3 -
Phase 3 – Upper School
Years 4, 5 and 6
This phase-based structure allows staff to work closely together, ensuring consistency in teaching, behaviour and support, while also responding to the specific needs of children at different stages of their development.

Early Years Provision (Phase 1)
Our Early Years provision includes both Nursery and Reception.
We offer a 52-place Nursery, with flexible options for families, including:
-
full-time places
-
morning sessions
-
afternoon sessions
Attendance at our Nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. However, many families choose Nursery as an excellent introduction to school life, helping children become familiar with routines, staff and the school environment in a supportive and nurturing setting.
Leadership and Support
Each phase is supported by a dedicated staff team and led by a Phase Leader.
The school's Senior Leadership Team (SLT), which includes Phase Leaders, Pupil Premium Lead, Reading Lead, Deputy Headteachers and the Headteacher, works closely together to:
-
ensure high-quality provision across the school
-
support children’s academic, social and emotional development
-
manage smooth transitions between year groups and key stages
This collaborative approach helps every child feel secure, supported and confident as they move through the school.
Arriving and Leaving School
The beginning and end of the school day are particularly busy times. At Ordsall Primary School, we place a strong emphasis on safeguarding and site security to ensure the safety of children, families and staff.
The school has two external access points:
-
West Hill Road
-
Ordsall Road
These are the gates used by children and families at drop-off and collection times.
Staff are present on site during these times to:
-
support families
-
answer questions
-
supervise arrivals and departures
-
monitor safety across the site

Safety and Security
Safety and security are a high priority at Ordsall Primary School.
-
Once the school day begins, the site is secured
-
Entry and exit to buildings is controlled by access card systems
-
The school grounds are monitored by CCTV
-
Visitor access is via the Ordsall Road gate only
-
All visitors must sign in using our electronic visitor system
All staff share responsibility for safeguarding and are required to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check before working at Ordsall.
These measures help ensure a safe, calm and well-organised environment where children can focus on learning and wellbeing.
