    Published 17/05/24

To all of our year 6 children; congratulations on completing your SATs this week! We are incredibly proud of each and every one of you for the hard work, determination, and resilience you have shown.

You have tackled everything with courage and confidence, demonstrating your knowledge and skills in English and maths. Your dedication and commitment to doing your best have not gone unnoticed.

To celebrate your accomplishments, not only during this week but throughout your time at Ordsall Primary School, we have organised a special end-of-week celebration which will involve a number of fun inflatables. This is a time for you to enjoy some well-deserved fun with your friends and teachers. It will be an afternoon filled with laughter, joy, and pride as we come together to celebrate your hard work and success.

Remember, completing the SATs is a significant milestone, but it is just one step on your journey. You have shown that you are capable of overcoming obstacles and achieving great things, and we know that you will continue to shine bright in all that you do.

Once again, congratulations on completing your SATs, Year 6! We look forward to celebrating with you on this afternoon!

  • Deaf Awareness Week

    Published 10/05/24

To mark Deaf Awareness Week, the children took part in an assembly on how we can all be more aware of some of the barriers people may face with communication, particularly those that are deaf or have hearing loss.

We discussed top tips to support with communication, such as speaking clearly, not covering our mouth and standing in good light. We even learnt some finger spelling!

Further information and resources can be found at the National Deaf Children's Society website.

  • Football team in the final!

    Published 03/05/24

Our year 5/6 boys battled furiously in their recent Parry Cup semi-final against a very tough Ramsden. The boys took the lead early on with a very neat finish from Jacob, but Ramsden battled back and equalised before he break. After putting us under pressure early in the second half, Ramsden scored a sublime goal putting them 2-1 up. However, the boys from Ordsall fought back, and the pressure paid off with an excellently taken long range effort from Max to set up a frenetic finale. The confidence was flowing through a brave Ordsall who were now looking for the winner, which came when Sean latched on to a goal kick from Jenson, who bundled the ball into the back of the net to send us to the Parry Cup Final! Outstanding work boys! #TeamOrdsall

What a fantastic result - well done! We are all looking forward to the final.

In the most recent newsletter, we announced that we were in the process of recruiting an additional member of staff to join our office team. Please join me in welcoming Mrs Louise Conway to the Ordsall team. She has settled in brilliantly during her first week and I am in no doubt that she will become a highly valued member of the team.

  • More rugby fun and marking World Downs Syndrome Day

    Published 22/03/24

The school took 14 girls from years 5 and 6 to participate in another tag rugby festival at Newark Rugby Club. We had two teams with each team playing five games, winning three, drawing one and losing one. The girls played some fantastic rugby and really grew into the event as it went on - well done girls!

In school, every child has planted a sunflower to mark World Downs Syndrome Day 2024, with five sunflowers being selected from each class for our school councilors to plant in the school grounds. Each class took park in an assembly and discussions to raise awareness and we will be holding a fundraising event for this in the summer.

  • World Book Day

    Published 08/03/24

On Thursday 7th March, all the children in school took part in World Book Day by coming to school dressed to represent a word. We do this as an opportunity to expose children to a broad range of new and interesting vocabulary and, of course, to have a fantastic time!

Many of the outfits and ideas were very creative and original, and I would like to thank everyone for their support in taking part in this day.

During the day, the children took part in a live, online assembly with author Ian Eagleton, writer of Glitter Boy, as well as other book-related activities.

  • Garden Renovation

    Published 23/02/24

Welcome back to the second spring term!

Over the half term, our garden behind the Phase 1 buildings has undergone a complete renovation. Uniper, which is a utility company that operates a number of sites in the local area, most notably Cottom power station, kindly offered to support our school by renovating the Phase 1 garden for us as part of their community commitment.

During February half term they sent in their groundwork team who did an amazing job of rebuilding the broken raised beds, renovating the dilapidated shed and jet washing all the paths, slabs and tarmac areas. They cleared and cut back the beds, borders and trees and purchased some nice new benches and garden tools for the children to be able to work in the garden.

Finally, as a generous parting gesture, they delivered to us a brand-new greenhouse in time to start some spring planting.

I am sure you will agree that it looks fantastic!
