Why Punctuality Matters
Being late, even by a few minutes, can have a significant impact on learning. Lost minutes quickly become lost hours—and then lost days.
Consider the following:
-
5 minutes late every day = over 3 days of learning lost each year
-
10 minutes late every day = 33 hours of learning lost
-
15 minutes late every day = almost 2 weeks of learning missed
-
30 minutes late every day = 19 days of lost learning (equivalent to 90% attendance)
Lateness also disrupts the class and can make it harder for your child to settle into learning.
Why Attendance and Punctuality Are So Important
Every single day in school matters. Regular attendance and punctuality:
-
Support strong academic progress
-
Help children build routines and resilience
-
Strengthen social relationships
-
Promote good wellbeing and confidence
-
Protect children through consistent safeguarding checks
Learning time lost through lateness or frequent absences adds up quickly. For example, 90% attendance across the whole of primary school equals a full year of learning missed.
Working Together
Our aim is to work with families to ensure children are in school every day and on time. Our Family Team monitors lateness and will offer support where needed to help improve punctuality.
If you have concerns or feel you need support with morning routines, please contact the team via office@ordsallpri.notts.sch.uk.
Our school target for attendance is to be above 96%.
