School Structure

As Ordsall Primary School comprises of three distinct blocks, the school has been structured into three Phases:

Phase 1 - Nursery (part-time and full-time) and Reception
Phase 2 - Years 1, 2 and 3
Phase 3 - Years 4, 5 and 6

In Phase 1, our Early Years provision, we offer both full- and part-time places for Nursery children. Families can choose from full-time, morning or afternoon sessions as part of our 52-place Nursery. Attendance at our Nursery does not guarantee a Reception place; however, many families find it an excellent introduction to school life, helping children become familiar with our routines, staff and environment.

Each Phase is supported by its own dedicated staff team and led by a Phase Leader. The Leadership Team - comprising Phase Leaders, Deputy Headteachers and the Headteacher - works closely to ensure smooth transitions between year groups and key stages, supporting every child’s progress through the school.

Arriving and Leaving

The school is a very busy place at the beginning and end of the day especially, but at Ordsall Primary School we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. The school has two physical points of entry, one is on West Hill Road and the other is on Ordsall Road. These are the gates that the children and families will use to go to and from the school.

Safety and security are a high priority for us at school, and parents and carers will see staff on the site at drop off and collection times to answer questions, but also to monitor everyone's safety. Once the school day begins, the school site is secured, with access being monitored by the staff and CCTV covering the grounds. Entrance to and from all of our buildings is by an access card and access into the school grounds is only at the gate on Ordsall Road. We use a controlled access system and ask all visitors to sign in using our electronic system. All our staff share this commitment to everyone's safety and are required to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check before they are able to work with us at Ordsall.

School Meals

The school provides meals for children who want one from its own kitchen. The children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are all eligible to receive a school meal at no cost under the Universal Infant Free School Meal initiative, as well as children that eligible for benefits-related free school meals. Parents and carers can check if they are eligible for benefits-related free school meals here.
