  • Sports Day fun

    Published 28/06/24

This week saw the remaining of our Sports Days taking place, after Nursery and Reception's successful events last week. Due to the increasing size of the school, we decided to host Sports Days for Years 1 and 2, Years 3 and 4, and Years 5 and 6, to ensure the field does not become overcrowded and the children can participate as much as possible.

Each of the events were well attended and the 'finals' races definitely brought some tension and excitement!

Thank you for your ongoing support and a big thank you to the staff for their hard work and organisation to make them possible.

  • Rugby at Leicester Tigers and Football Cup runners up

    Published 21/06/24

Some of our Phase 3 children were lucky enough to visit the stadium of Leicester Tigers and take part in their Tag Rugby Summer Sports Series. The children had an excellent afternoon and showcased lots of high-quality ball handling and passing skills. Well done everyone!

Also this week, our boys football team took part in the Parry Cup final at Worksop Town's ground against Norbridge Primary Academy. On a gloriously sunny afternoon, the boys representing Ordsall Primary School played extremely well and showed lots of energy, skill and determination. Unfortunately, despite having opportunities to win the game, the boys ended up on the wrong side of a 1-0 result. Unlucky boys - keep your heads held high for the performance you all gave!

We are in the process of developing this in school to deliver ready for September. Further information about the Maker School programme can be found here.

I would also like to give a huge congratulations to the children in Years 1 and 2 and that took part in the Phonics Screening Check this week. From speaking with the class teachers, I know the children showed great determination and resilience and approached the check with enthusiasm - well done children!

Lastly, I was lucky enough to accompany some of our Year 5 children to a cricket festival at Blyth Cricket Club on Monday. The children showed some great catching, bowling and batting skills and had a fantastic day!

  • End of Summer 1 Term

    Published 24/05/24

What a (busy) half term we have had! Once again, the children have shown themselves to be hard working and resilient, whether that is through the work they have done in the classroom, taking part in extracurricular activities or the various sport events we have been involved with.

The Year 3 showcase was a huge success this week and the children did themselves proud, particularly with their singing. Thank you for your attendance and supporting with this.

Some of our Year 2 children are taking part in a multi-skills festival at Retford Oaks Academy today. They looked super smart in their sports kit when leaving school this morning, and they are being accompanied by some of our Year 6 sport leaders.

Lastly, I hope you all have a wonderful break over the half term, and I look forward to seeing you all again on Tuesday 4th June.

To mark Deaf Awareness Week, the children took part in an assembly on how we can all be more aware of some of the barriers people may face with communication, particularly those that are deaf or have hearing loss.

We discussed top tips to support with communication, such as speaking clearly, not covering our mouth and standing in good light. We even learnt some finger spelling!

Further information and resources can be found at the National Deaf Children's Society website.

  • Football team in the final!

    Published 03/05/24

Our year 5/6 boys battled furiously in their recent Parry Cup semi-final against a very tough Ramsden. The boys took the lead early on with a very neat finish from Jacob, but Ramsden battled back and equalised before he break. After putting us under pressure early in the second half, Ramsden scored a sublime goal putting them 2-1 up. However, the boys from Ordsall fought back, and the pressure paid off with an excellently taken long range effort from Max to set up a frenetic finale. The confidence was flowing through a brave Ordsall who were now looking for the winner, which came when Sean latched on to a goal kick from Jenson, who bundled the ball into the back of the net to send us to the Parry Cup Final! Outstanding work boys! #TeamOrdsall

What a fantastic result - well done! We are all looking forward to the final.

Each class took park in an assembly and discussions to raise awareness and we will be holding a fundraising event for this in the summer.
